Books Backstage: Theatergoers Of Any Age Find Inner Bookworm

PRINCE GEORGE – The Prince George Public Library teamed up with Theatre Northwest to engage audiences on multiple platforms.

From stage to page, librarians organizing Books Backstage pick out books that are linked to current theatre productions. It is a way the Prince George Public Library is guiding audience members to take a deeper look at the themes in a play. Right now, The Best Brothers is running at Theatre Northwest. Although a comedy, the show deals with issues of loss, so librarians have chosen books such as Mary Lawson’s The Other Side of the Bridge and Family Life by Jami Attenberg.

The list can be found in every program handed out prior to showtime. In the past, shows like Alice and Wonderland have catered to a young audience of readers. This season, many plays have had mature content, so the librarians behind Books Backstage are pushing adults to find their inner bookworm.
