PRINCE GEORGE – “So it’s built for 600-person occupancy. We have enough bleacher area for 600 people to come to an event.”

That’s Shane Nelson, the Principal with Cedars Christian School describing the newest gem in its crown. The new gymnasium at the end of Preston road.

For years, the school’s athletic clubs had to prevail upon the good graces of the College of New Caledonia and other secondary schools to use their facilities and practice. But not for long.

For at least a dozen years, the school has dreamed of having its own facility. Work began this summer and the exterior will be closed up by Christmas, so crews can continue working inside through the winter.

“Inside, it’s in two phases. The first phase is the completion of the gymnasium, foyer, change room and washroom area. And then we’ll be able, hopefully, to wall off certain sections. As we have more funds come in, be able to set up some classroom spaces on the bottom floor and top floor.” There are also plans to have landscaping connected to trails along the Nechako River.

So pleased are they with the progress of the facility, they are opening their doors to an open house tomorrow, beginning at 7 p.m. Of course, those interested will have to register in advance due to COVID.

That can be done on the school’s website.
